I MEAN, YEAH, IF YOU KNOW WHAT’S GOOD

Life is a numbers game. Math, science, physics, it’s all a numbers game: You kiss enough frogs, you’ll get your prince; you apply to enough jobs, you’ll eventually land the dream one; you move to enough places, you’ll finally find your home. Everything is a numbers game. Everything, whether it’s important or seemingly insignificant.

For years, like, years, numbers have been recognized as the be all and end all. Fibonacci sequence, whhhaaaatttt? For some, numerology has become the lens through which they view the world, their religion. And this is where life path numbers comes in.

The theory goes that your birthday can be whittled down to a single number, one through to nine, with the exception of supposed “master numbers” 11, 22, and 33. These Master Numbers apparently have double the intensity of single digit life path numbers. What’s the point of them? Life path numbers are a prediction of your overarching personality and allude to challenges and opportunities you’ll likely encounter because of it.

So, how do you find yours? It’s pretty damn simple:

1. EXAMINE YOUR FULL BIRTHDATE.

Mine’s August 7, 1990, AKA 8/7/1990. #leo, bitch

2. ADD ALL NUMBERS TOGETHER + DISTIL TO A SINGLE VALUE*.

Thus, 8 + 7 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 34, and 3 + 4 = 7. Therefore my life path number is seven.

*Excluding the aforementioned double digit Master Numbers of 11, 22, or 33; these are intensified versions of the life path numbers 2, 4, and 6, respectively. Refer to the latter for your life path number summary 😉

Now, the important bit: what yours means! Scroll down to read about yours.

IF YOUR LIFE PATH NUMBER IS 1

THE LEADERS

PROS: You guys are authority figures who take shit from no one and who naturally ascend to the throne (#wheremyGucciheadbandat).  Assuming a leadership role ain’t no thang because you innately have self-confidence to direct and not to mention, thrive off challenges. Obstacles are no match for your goal-oriented M.O. Ambitious Life Path 1s have an excellent ability at promoting themselves and are fundamentally, very strong individuals. You’re unflappable in a crisis, and the dependable Anya Hindmarch everyone needs in their lives.

CONS: An out of balance or underdeveloped Life Path 1 will have the exaggerated version of their positive attributes, meaning their strong sense of direction can err into Stubborn Land if they’re not too careful. Be wary of wearing your blinkers AKA your Taylor Morrises for too long. You’re one cool cucumber, but because you’re used to getting what you want, you can become childish if things don’t go your way. Similarly, because you’re your harshest critic, if someone else criticizes you, you don’t handle it very well. Maintain that grace you carry in spades.

IF YOUR LIFE PATH NUMBER IS 2 (OR 11, AKA LIFE PATH 1 ON STEROIDS)

THE MOTHERS

PROS: You babes are some spiritual mo’fuckas. You’ve got some serious psychic vibes about you and are particularly empathic. You’re supremely observant and sensitive to people’s emotions pulsating around you. Because you’re naturally a caretaker, Life Path 2’s are brilliant team members thanks to your mad peacemaker skillz. You’re a visionary, a superlative persuader, and ultimately, a seeker of harmony.

CONS: You can easily get lost in other people’s emotions and tangled up in others’ life directions, making it especially difficult for you to not get overwhelmed by their problems (cue: aura cleansing crystals) and/or go off course from your own path. Dear Life Path 2, you gotta amp up the self-love and nourishment. Don’t let your compassion and humility to prevent you from speaking up, otherwise you’ll grow resentful towards people who seem to not recognize your talents (most likely because you didn’t make them notice!). Oh, and be mindful of running away from conflict too easily. Occasionally the situation merits it.

IF YOUR LIFE PATH NUMBER IS 3

THE ENTREPRENEURS

PROS: Well now, you Life Path 3s have sure got the gift of the gab, don’t cha? You chatty Cathys are some smoooooth talkers. You’re fabulous when it comes to expressing yourself, and will likely do very well in spheres that capitalise off of your loquacious personality. You’re inherently a very open, warm soul, and love the information exchange that comes with interacting with people. You’re playful, super creative, and will no doubt be known by almost everyone, you social butterfly, you.

CONS: You have a very “in the moment” outlook on life, and don’t focus on the future too much, particularly when money’s concerned. You’re not very good at handling your funds nor people who are content in doing the same thing all day, every day. With this thirst for new and exciting things, you can be romanced by the latest, greatest idea and leave a path of unfinished projects in your wake. But this is most likely because you Life Path 3s are paradoxically, rather sensitive creatures, and fear of failure is terrifying to you because you hold onto scars for years.

IF YOUR LIFE PATH NUMBER IS 4 (OR 22, AKA LIFE PATH 4 ON STEROIDS)

THE PLANNERS

PROS: Order, organization, efficiency: Life Path 4s are the last person you’d ever describe as scatty, their Larsson & Jenning Opera is just too much of an appendage. You structural geniuses automatically categorize and neaten everything in your life. Because you’re so magically practical, you see the flaws in plans a mile off, and can effortlessly come up with solutions. Pragmatism is your middle name, and you don’t shy away from tasks that test your diligence. You’re never far away from your To Do list. As a loyal, trustworthy and obedient critter, you’re the perfect employee.

CONS: Perfectionism is your kryptonite. You adore order and things “just so,” which is fine, but don’t let analysis paralysis distract you from the bigger picture. Keep perspective. Similarly, oh Life Path 4, don’t allow others to confuse your dedication for stubbornness. You’re so used to following plans, you can leave little room for creativity. Allow your mind to remain open and occasionally listen to those non-traditional thinkers, they could be onto something ;).

IF YOUR LIFE PATH NUMBER IS 5

THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS

PROS: Free spirits to the very core, Life Path 5s are (wo)man’s best friend, championing human rights and welfare. You strive to make the world a better place, and you’ll be damned if someone threatens yours or another’s ability to roam. A keen sense of adventure, you’re oft found exploring not just cities, but people and ideas, too. Routine is the fastest way to kill you, being the progressive Life Path 5 you are, so you’ll dedicate your life to finding answers to questions no matter how difficult.

CONS: Given Life Path 5s love an escapade, your risk-taker ways can sometimes get you in over your head. Ditto your restlessness: You need to acknowledge your tendency to drop and run when tasks or projects start to lose their shine. Instant gratification is not always the solution. It also goes without saying that Life Path 5s natural state is a state of flux, so occasionally challenge yourself by learning what stability’s like. Maintaining a long-term, committed relationship may prove elusive for you, but acknowledging this tendency can help you to secure one if you wish.

IF YOUR LIFE PATH NUMBER IS 6 (OR 33, AKA LIFE PATH 6 ON STEROIDS)

THE HUMANITARIANS

PROS: Life Path 6s are nurturers through and through. You are the caretaker, mothering everyone and anyone who enters your life. You can’t help it. You are generous to a fault, thoughtful and humble to the very end, and you almost always carry more than your fair share. You have a sympathetic character and justice is high on your list of priorities. Community welfare is huge to you and you not only derive pleasure from serving others, you take pride in it.

CONS:  As much as you are wise, you are just as righteous — sometimes overly so. Be careful not to play martyr all the time. It’s not your responsibility to heal society. Save yourself the grief by realising early that not everyone wants to be “saved.” Protect your resources by not giving your time to energy vampires who will take advantage of your kind and selfless nature. Life Path 6s would also do well to learn the difference between supporting and enabling.

IF YOUR LIFE PATH NUMBER IS 7

THE PHILOSOPHERS

PROS: You are a thinker, a truth seeker. Others’ opinions bear little influence on you, where you must discover things on your own before you accept them. Your e-stalking abilities are unparalleled, and you can spot flaws or discrepancies an aeon away. You’re usually psychically-inclined, but may resist these intuitive abilities because they jar with your super cerebral disposition. Life Path 7s are naturally charming and witty, but you can also appear aloof because you’re busy assessing whether or not the person in question is worthy of your wisdom.

CONS: Your perilous quest for perfection and accuracy often leaves you disappointed when others fail to meet your astronomic standards. This is not a reason to indulge your hermit tendencies. Nor is it reason to allow your thoughts to spiral into overdrive. Life Path 7, chill out, homegurl. It’s okay if things don’t go to plan; learn how to be flexible and not dismiss people if they don’t instantly woo you with their accolades or have different priorities.

IF YOUR LIFE PATH NUMBER IS 8

THE CEOS

PROS: Life Path 8s are proficient leaders, magnanimously reigning over whatever workspace or group situation they may be involved with. You are so well equipped for succeeding in the corporate world, you’ll find that this comes easily. You guys are far-king worker bees, but don’t get us confused; you answer to no one, not internally anyway. You’re a high achiever and are wonderfully tenacious — attributes that’ll reward you in and out of the office

CONS: In short, don’t let success go to your head. There is a streak in you that could encourage you to become dictatorial, rather than authoritative. Don’t let your power suit — innate and bestowed — overcome you. Life Path 8s are also inclined to place high value in material goods, because to you, they signify the hard work that you expended in getting to a position where you could afford them. While the core intent is great, realize that there are far more rewarding things (and experiences!) — most of which are intangible.

IF YOUR LIFE PATH NUMBER IS 9

THE GIVERS

PROS: My-oh-my-oh-my, the love you have to give. Wow. It’s a deep, unending well of love for those around you and humanity in general. You’re incredibly magnetic and easily draw people into your orbit. You don’t value material possessions, only what you can do for others and are energized by others’ success. Impossibly altruistic, Life Path 9s have the generous gene and flex that muscle as frequently as they possibly can. Perhaps surprisingly, you also flourish in leadership roles, mainly because of your belief that it’s a platform allowing you to make a difference in the world.

CONS: With all of this passion comes a propensity for drama. You can turn into a bit of a Mariah Carey diva-with-a-capital-D-darhling when you realize the world’s not always as you hoped it would be. Similarly, don’t allow your infinite compassion to make you too preachy. People stop listening when you’re up on your soapbox. When finding a partner, find someone who shares your giving attitude, otherwise you might be taken advantage of. And, naturally, do your absolute best to control your finances.
